If your New Year's resolution is to be a little bolder, Henderson Beach State Park's Turtle Plunge is the perfect place to start. Every January 1, hundreds of brave souls gather on Destin's most pristine stretch of sugar-white beach to ring in the new year by charging into the emerald Gulf — costumes encouraged, warm towels mandatory.
Registration opens at 8 AM and closes promptly at 10 AM, giving you time to find your spot on the sand and survey the competition in the beloved costume contest before the Big Plunge at 11 AM. The first 150 registered participants receive a commemorative gift, and the costume contest adds a layer of competitive fun to the whole freezing affair.
Every dollar raised supports the Destin Junior Lifeguard program and the Friends of Emerald Coast State Parks — meaning your moment of icy courage helps protect the beach and train the next generation of lifesavers.
