🚩 Beach Flag Guide

Florida beaches use a colored flag warning system. Always check the flags and obey lifeguard instructions!

Green Flag

Low Hazard

Calm conditions - perfect for swimming! Always swim near a lifeguard.

Yellow Flag

Medium Hazard

Moderate surf and/or currents. Use caution - weak swimmers should stay near shore.

Red Flag

High Hazard

Dangerous conditions! Strong currents present. Only experienced swimmers should enter.

Double Red

WATER CLOSED

Beach is CLOSED to swimming. Do not enter the water - violators may be fined.

Purple Flag

Marine Pests

Jellyfish, stingrays, or other marine life present. Can fly with other flags.

πŸ›Ÿ Beach Safety Tips

🌊 Rip Currents

If caught in a rip current, don't panic or fight it. Swim parallel to shore until free, then head back at an angle. Signal for help if needed.

🧴 Sun Protection

Apply SPF 30+ sunscreen 15 minutes before sun exposure. Reapply every 2 hours. The Florida sun is strongest 10am-4pm!

πŸ‘¨β€πŸ‘©β€πŸ‘§ Buddy System

Never swim alone! Stay near lifeguards and keep kids within arm's reach. Remember: "Knee deep is too deep" for weak swimmers.

πŸ¦‘ Marine Life

Shuffle your feet in shallow water to avoid stingrays. Don't touch jellyfish - even dead ones can sting! Purple flag = marine pests present.

πŸ•³οΈ Fill Your Holes

Always fill in holes before leaving the beach. Deep holes are dangerous for sea turtles who nest at night and can trap or injure them. It's also a tripping hazard for other beachgoers!

🏊 No Lifeguard? Be Prepared

Most Destin beaches are unguarded. Swim near others, never alone. Check conditions before entering. Know your limits - if waves look rough, stay on shore. Keep a phone nearby for emergencies.
